I MISS QUICKSILVER

by Dave on April 6, 2008

I feel like my system is broken without Quicksilver.

As a audiophile, I use quicksilver to switch songs in itunes – from any application – and I am losing patience having to open up iTunes to accomplish this! Also, being cursed to use Exchange systems for email at my University, I dread any contact with Microsoft Entourage. I hate that program. Quicksilver made working with Entourage relatively painless: I did not have to actually open the program and select ‘new message’ then further navigate entourage’s cluttered address pane. I could just hit command + space and type a few letters of who I wanted to contact and BLAM! A new letter already addressed would appear. ARG! Damn the transitions between software versions! Lets recap:

  • Microsoft Entourage 2008 is horrible. Cluttered, Slow, and worst of all: Unstable.
  • I cannot use workarounds for group calendaring: iCal does not support exchange protocol like osx Mail.
  • -Why? This seems like a slap in the forehead.
  • Quicksilver does not completely support 10.5 = Unstable, lacking support for many apps (mainly, Office 2008!)

It’s strange that you’re having trouble with QS on 10.5. I use it and everything has gone smoothly so far, though I suspect that I use far fewer of its features. I never noticed a problem with my iTunes hotkeys back when I used that feature. Are you perhaps using a version of QS that you installed before upgrading to 10.5?

I mentioned earlier, however, that I no longer use QS for my iTunes control. I may have a solution for you! Short of fixing your problems with Quicksilver, you might try out a program called Coverstream (http://snarb.co.uk/coverstream). It has hotkey features and is also Hella Nifty.

Hope you get it fixed.

Thanks for your comments. I found a very sexy program called CoverSutra. ha. It works just fine as a iTunes controller. As for now, I have decided to protest QS until there is a stable version (b.55?). Crossing my fingers for a office 08′ plugin for QS.

Awesome. Unordered lists fail with this WP theme as well.

How had I never heard of Venetian Snares before? I don’t understand how these things escape my notice.

Good luck waiting for QS!
