University of Iowa Orientation
by Dave on June 22, 2006
I just had the pleasure pain of attending Iowa’s orientation for incoming students. The program, which lasted two days, was designed to make incoming students (mostly from smaller schools) feel less nervous about the University. Coming from a class size of near 700 myself, I just felt bored. The first couple hours were mildly informative, covering important things such as requirements to graduate. After lunch, we sat down with our TA’s to plan our first semester. It seemed odd that we didn’t plan our first year out, but whatever. If we had stopped right there, and not had a second day, I’m sure there would have been far less confused students. The second day truly was a waste. We spent 7 hours “working out our schedules” (on paper, mind you) to culminateĀ to seeing an advisor for 2 minutes and then proceeding to type our schedules into a computer that fixed all errors. (If we had any after 7 hours.) Yet again, I assume thatĀ because of the educational background I have I found this laughable, but it may not have been to others. It just vexes me wasting so much of my time. uuurgh.
On a side note, we got these nifty Tees. Its the first hawk paraphernalia I own
